Emerging Voices Program
Dear Delegates,
While debating, designing innovative solutions, and collaborating with various peers fill your time in committee during HMC Boston, Harvard Model Congress aims to bring students together through the celebration of individual identity, intellectual diversity, and sharing perspectives. From these values, the Emerging Voices Program (EVP) was born.
The mission of Emerging Voices is to celebrate the diversity of our HMC delegates, providing a platform for delegates to tell their stories to an audience of their peers and receive mentoring from members of HMC leadership. Through Emerging Voices, we hope to showcase the unique backgrounds of our HMC delegates, inspiring conference attendees to celebrate and get to know their peers in a new way. Participants receive individualized written and performance feedback from leaders in the HMC community, and connect directly with peers in our EVP Showcase. Your Emerging Voices speech should be 5-minutes, between 500-700 words, and should respond to one of the following two prompts:
Tell us about a challenge you've faced. What was it, how did you overcome it, and what did you learn from the experience?
Tell us about how your identity shapes your worldview. What makes you, you?
After you submit your speech, you will receive feedback on your speech from Harvard Model Congress staffers, and you may be selected to perform your speech at our EVP Showcase during the Harvard Model Congress Boston 2025 conference.
To apply, submit your speech to the Google form linked here by February 7, 2025 at 11:59 PM ET.
The Emerging Voices reception will happen on during the conference on Friday, February 21st at 11:30 AM.

Begin your speech with a captivating hook:
Tell us a story!
Start with an engaging anecdote and use plenty of examples throughout
Outline your speech and think of a theme you can carry throughout the speech
Consider what issues drive you.
Ask yourself: what do you hope the audience will take away from your speech?
What statistics, quotes, or events drive your theme?
End with a call to action or concluding statement, ensuring your audience has a lasting impression of your speech.
